This violin has attributes consistent with a nicely constructed hand made instrument.
Its attributes are also consistent with German craftsmanship.
The hand-written label appears original, and obviously has some age. It reads:
Made in Germany. Especially for F. O. Rietch [illegible] Chicago, Ill.
Guaranteed hand made after the
[illegible] Joseph Guarnarius fecit
Cremona anno 1723"
The label has a rough rendition of Guarneri's cross and IHS after the inscription.
All solid carved spruce top.
All solid carved flamed maple back, sides and neck.
Light colored spirit varnish finish.
Ebony fittings.
Dominant strings.
The violin has some finish scratching, mostly on the upper bouts of the top.
