We always prefer to have you visit us in person instead of through a distant Internet connection, but understand you might want to see or purchase certain items without driving.   So, after many years, we present this searchable database of our store inventory. We find ourselves so busy in our real store that it is difficult to keep things absolutely up-to-date in our virtual store.  We have may items that are not currently posted and we have stripped the prices off of may things because they were out of date and in violation of our suppliers' policies.  We plan to do a BIG update of inventory and pricing SOON.

Item Information

Johannes Köhr Model 440v 16"Antique Finish Viola Outfit

"Johannes Köhr" is the name given to a relatively new line of violins and violas offered by respected importer Howard Core.  Violin shops use the words "step up instrument" to describe an instrument that is neither an entry level student instrument nor a stunningly expensive master level instrument.  A step-up instrument is between the student and master level students and are well suited to the needs of advancing students, skilled recreational players and semi-professional players. For many decades, a few importers of violins completely controlled the flow of violin imports to the US.  Those importers contracted with violinmaking shops to build instruments that were later graded, varnished and labeled to serve student and step-up markets.  Howard Core developed the Johannes Köhr models of violins and violas so that they could step outside of the normal importing avenues and offer instruments that they believed to be more truely "step up" instruments.  They contracted directly for instruments built with better woods and test marketed the instruments with their dealers.  They developed the Johannes Köhr line with only those instruments that their dealers identified as truly superior to student instruments.  The 440v 16" viola is one of those models.
