Margaret Young

Teaches at Meadowood: Tues, Wed, Thurs, & Fri, 10:00 - 3:00

Margaret started playing Classical violin at the age of 3, going through the first three books in the Suzuki method and most of the way through the fourth before beginning the switch to traditional fiddling around age 13. She attends the monthly Irish session at the Craft Ale House in Royersford as a means of educational entertainment; learning tunes traditionally while having a good time! From training in Classical violin, and both Celtic and American fiddling styles, she is proficient in both reading musical notation and learning tunes by ear. She imparts those skills to her students.

Margaret has competed at the Lyons Fiddle Fest since 2013, placing 3rd in her group in 2016 and 1st in 2018. Her past instructors include Cynthia Salti Leibee, Kariana Leinbach, and Ted Fenstermacher.  Margaret currently studies with Alison Gillespie.

Margaret has ample skill in piano & keyboard, having taken lessons from many instructors over the years, including Kariana Leinbach. In addition to her main instruments (violin and piano), she is studying and plays the Scottish bagpipes and Bodhrán (Irish drum).

Margaret can teach Beginner through Early Intermediate piano, Beginner violin, Beginner through Intermediate Old-Time, Irish and Scottish fiddle, and Beginner Bodhrán & Bagpipe.

We are very excited to offer Margaret’s diverse musical and teaching skills at Meadowood.
