Margaret Young teaches violin & fiddle

Margaret Young

Teaches at Meadowood: Tues, Wed, Thurs, & Fri, 10:00 - 3:00

Margaret Young began playing classical violin at age 3, progressing through the first three Suzuki Method books and much of the fourth before shifting to traditional fiddling at around age 13. She regularly attends Irish and Scottish sessions in Royersford and Kutztown—and approaches these gatherings as musical education and entertainment alike, learning tunes traditionally and having a good time. She is proficient in both reading musical notation and learning by ear—and she passes both skills on to her students.

Margaret has competed at the Lyons Fiddle Fest (now Berks Fiddle Fest) since 2013, placing 3rd in her group in 2016 and 1st in 2018. In 2024 she placed 2nd in the Scottish FIRE National fiddling competition. Her past instructors include Cynthia Salti Leibee, Kariana Leinbach, Ted Fenstermacher and Alison Gillespie. She currently studies with David Gardner.

In addition to her main instruments (violin and piano), Margaret plays Scottish bagpipes and the bodhrán (Irish drum). She teaches beginner through early-intermediate piano/keyboard; beginner bodhrán and bagpipe; beginner classical violin; beginning through intermediate Bluegrass, old-time and Irish fiddling; and beginner through advanced Scottish fiddle. She works with both children and adults.

We are very excited to offer Margaret’s diverse musical and teaching skills at Meadowood Music.
